Mourning Downton Book & Movie Club: Mr. Selfridge Episode 5: Herringbone Floors

Mr. Selfridge has me hooked. It's equally annoying and addicting.
Last week the teal velvet upholstery stood out to me.
This week I was drawn into the drama (or melodrama) of it all and then BAM!
Mr. Crabb

Where those herringbone hardwood floors they are walking on in the upstairs office halls at Selfridge's?
Why, yes, they are!

I have always wanted to have herringbone patterned hardwood floors...I even have some earmarked and pinned in my Pinterest "Dreaming My Dreams" board.
There is something about the herringbone rhythm that enhances the variegated tone and wood grain.

Herringbone is a classic pattern which translates into just about every medium.
In textiles:

 brick:

tile:

 wood:

art:

In just about any medium...um, even braids, right?

A little more solid and traditional than chevron...which has more a  mod vibe.
If you missed it, you can watch an instant replay of Mr. Selfridge, Episode 5 and see if you can spot the glimpse of herringbone wood floors yourself!!!

House Guests: Updated & Restored Queen Anne Victorian Farmhouse

We're moving. And I sort of couldn't help but look at some options online.
Well, this dream boat is out of our price range. But if I could pick a house to be my next nest...this would be it. I'm an old bones of a house sort of girl. I grew up in a 1901 Victorian and there is just something special about old creaky floors and walls that aren't quite squared...about drafty windows...but this one has all the bells and whistles of new construction paired with the character and charm of a historic home. That means, yes, exactly what I love- old house with a face lift. The new changes add functionality, a modern design edge AND eco-friendly energy perks.

And if you think the exterior is divine, hold onto your hats. I'd love to sort of take it up a notch with a tad more femininity, color and pattern, it's a little stark, but the finishes, lighting, bones are fantastic.  Here's the interior:
