House Guests: The Model Home in my new neighborhood: Contemporary Classic

Yup, we have officially moved into our new neighborhood.
Our home was existing but there is a model in the hood since there are lots still available to purchase. Models are great sources for current design trends, furniture placement issues and also to answer the question, "what do I do with that weird window...do I hang a curtain or leave it plain"? So, off to the model I went in search of inspiration and a few thoughts about quirky architectural elements and what the best design solution will be for me to attack them ;)

This particular model is trending light, bright and airy, contemporary grays and bold art. Note that there is tile and not wood floors in this model...I think this will be a big trend in the next year or two...moving away from wood and more to interesting tile. Another sort of style trend I'm seeing here and in so many other interiors is HOTEL DESIGN....home interiors to me are moving towards HOTEL DESIGN...very sleek and uncluttered, even in traditional interpretations. Scroll down through the pictures and tell me that any one of these rooms couldn't be a hotel room.
I'm not a 'new home' kind of gal, but we are in a newer subdivision. Many builders are starting to add wainscotting, built ins and other details throughout homes in order to add much desired character to these otherwise 'cookie cutter' houses. Hallelujah!

I love the french doors painted in a different color than the trim. The dark gray doors pull the entry wall color into the room.

Come back next Thurs for the rest of the tour: Bedrooms, bathrooms and additional living space!

    1. hi Katie, thanks for stopping by! This isn't my own home...it's the MODEL HOME for the builders of my neighborhood that we just moved into. It won for the Parade of Homes Interior Design Award. Fun to dream and to get ideas for my own house ;) Thanks so much, so glad to get to know you and your blog!XO.

  2. I love this and I am definitely way into the grey and simplified trends when it comes to my own house. I'm wondering how you feel about the all white doors, trim and much of the wood in the house and then a darker wood in the kitchen. I fully expected white kitchen cabinets and think that would have created a better flow.

    1. Amanda, I totally agree with you that the dark cabinets in the kitchen don't tie in with the white woodwork throughout the rest of the house. The only thing I can think of why they may have done it is that we are in the Mountain West and people are still REALLY found of their hardwood cabinets. If it were mine, I think I would have brightened the kitchen up and definately had white cabinets. Walking through the home it feels elegant and crisp, and the two main things I would have changed would have been to sort of flip the kitchen: White cabinets and continue the hardwood floors in the kitchen...instead of their dark wood cabinets and white tile floors. Love that you recognized that. Flow is so important to a home and I think the kitchen breaks the rhythm for sure. Thanks so much for stopping by, so glad to 'meet' you! XO.

  3. It’s not surprising why you featured this house in your blog, Amy. This is absolutely wonderful! I really like its interior design; it looks very comfortable and homey. And the kitchen has everything a homeowner would want! Anyway, thanks for giving us a tour. Cheers!
