Yes, this is a special quote to me and my family. We are moving AGAIN. A wonderful professional opportunity came up for my husband so we will be moving to Utah! We are excited, but exhausted...this will be our 14th and hopefully, final move for some time anyway.

So today's freebie is a customizable free map for your family moves, travels, relatives, etc.
You can add your family name in the banner and a special quote or time frame on the bottom banner.

House Guests: The Tudors

I've always had a thing for Tudors...and not just Tudors as in:
TudorsPromo4-2.jpg

But Tudors as in:

The Tudor Revival  style of architecture.
Authentic English Tudor, 1575-1620, England
What has always AMAZED me and endeared this style to me has been the fact that a Tudor home can be at home, so to speak, just as much in California as it is in a tiny little English Country town.  For such a distinct style to be able to mesh with any region, landscape or climate makes it a timeless classic.
 Brooklyn, NY
Edsel and Eleanor Ford House: Examples of Tudor Revival Architecture
Michigan
Carlsbad, CA
Best Curb Appeal: The Doory Awards 2012
San Antonio, TX
The look:
There are stand-out Tudor features: leaded glass, beams, paneled ceilings, stone arches, detailed woodwork.

I love the architectural style. But Tudors typically are ornately furnished (or what I like to call "OVER-FURNISHED") and could stand to be brightened and freshened up with a more modern, fresh color palette.

Here is a super gorgeous Tudor in Ridgewood, NJ that we will tour today!
OH, WHAT I COULD DO TO THIS HOUSE!!

But oh, look at the stone arches. And the panels and beams EVERYWHERE.
Do you like Tudors?
I'll say it again...OH WHAT I COULD DO TO THIS HOUSE!

Mourning Downton Book & Movie Club: Week #5: Mr. Selfridge

Mr. Selfridge cast members

I've been SOOOO excited for Masterpiece's latest series: Mr. Selfridge.
It debuted last night and I am reserving my opinion of it until next week.
It has all the glamour and pizzazz that I was expecting, but I'm not sold just yet.
I'm a HUGE Jeremy Pivens fan, btw. He is a cousin of a gal I went to college with and he's perfect for this role, but for some reason it didn't flow for me last night. I'm hopeful, though, that there will be more character background/depth as it unfurls.
Episode 1

There are plenty of familiar faces in the characters surrounding the creative sales genius (and possibly bi-polar or sell your soul) Mr. Selfridge. I felt that overall, the stand out character and actor was Shop Girl, Agnes Towler, played by Aisling Loftus (why, what a lofty name Miss Aisling has). I think that she will be the heroine of the glove counter and possibly Mr. Selfridge's conscience at some point.
Agnes Towler
The costumes and sets are dripping with Edwardian grandeur....so even if the flow is off, it is fascinating to take in the theatre of it all.I'm going to stick it out with Mr. Selfridge, so come back each Monday for my take on all things Oxford Street Department Store/American Capitalist Entrepreneur.

To watch Episode one, head to the PBS link, here.

P.S. you can buy your very own pair of Miss Towler's red gloves at Selfridge's today!
