Dude Decor: February Edition. What suits you?

IT'S HOUNDSTOOTH...BUT NOT AS WE KNOW IT! •ƒƒ•

This is the second installment in my "DUDE DECOR" series. The first "DUDE" post, January's "Log Cabin and Plaid Flannel" has been one of my most popular posts to date on Commona-my House.
As I said back in January's post, the purpose for sharing these "Dude" decorating ideas comes from the fact that not all of us have a  designated man cave, den or office to devote to masculine style...if you do, then go to town...if you don't their are some things that you can incorporate into your existing spaces in order to sort of reel in the femininity of your decor.  Even shabby chic furnishings (which is what I would say is a prime example of feminine decor in all of its white washed and floral glory) can be complemented by an antler or two, for example. And I'm happy to say, that I have some male readers (bachelors and married, too)... I find myself loving typically "masculine" decor, worked into existing spaces even in small ways. It gives your home balance.
Love this mix of throw pillows. The silk pillows mixed with the men's suit fabrics look so sharp.
SUITING FABRIC pillows

So, this installment, "What suits you" will be highlighting men's suit fabrics and how you can incorporate them into your decor.  I love the look of using these suiting icons as upholstery and bedding.  And I'm not alone...big names like Ralph Lauren and Nate Berkus have been churning their own versions out this season.. take a look at this suiting statement.
Think:
Herringbone fabric
HERRINGBONE
English Wool Tweed Fabric | Ochre | Truro Fabrics
TWEED
PINSTRIPES
RL houndstooth fabric
HOUNDSTOOTH
Tartan- Any tartan can also be woven in tweed fabric. The characteristic uneven texture of Harris Tweed in particular wonderfully evokes authentic old tartans.
PLAIDS & TARTANS

When I think of these fabrics, I think of warmth, texture and a vibe that exudes confindence...not at all fussy.
Use classics or step out and choose bold colorful plaids...this is a strong, masculine statement, either way.

I'd love these PINSTRIPE curtians in my man's man cave
Now, whether you run out and find/make a pinstripe pillow or not is up to you, but stop yourself from spritzing it with your man's "Gray Flannel"...

..that's taking it too far.
XXXOOO.

  1. i am a huge fan of houndstooth, herringbone, and pinstripes. my mother had suits in these patterns when i was growing up, so its funny that i haven't associated them with predominantly with masculinity per se but classy femininity. in my eyes these patterns could belong in any room in the house:)
